The
election of the governing board of directors is specified
in the Association's By-Laws approved by membership. The number
of director shall not less than six (6) nor more than twenty
(20), as determined at the annual meeting by the affirmative
vote of a majority of the members present. Sixty percent (60%)
of the directors must be full time residents of the Highlands
area and must be eligible to vote in North Carolina. To the
extent practical, directors shall be representatives of full-time
residents, part-time residents, local homeowner's associations,
country clubs, local businesses, environmental groups, local
governments, government agencies, or other groups as may be
identified. A nominating committee appointed by the President
of the Association nominates directors each year.
A director's term is three (3) years. The board of directors
elects officers of the association annually.
