| Water is the
lifeblood of the Highlands plateau. The scenic beauty
of our mountains and the unique ecosystem of our hardwood
forest, native plants, mountain bogs and rare aquatic
life depend upon the quality and quantity of the water
in this high elevation rainforest. |
|
What
We Do
UCWA's Primary Focus has evolved from rainfall
measurement and erosion control to understanding and implementing
effective stormwater management in this watershed.
|
Stormwater
management addresses all pollutants in our streams and lakes,
including sediment. Water sampling and analysis on a regular
schedule provides quantitative information required to define
projects to improve our water quality.
The
Upper Cullasaja Watershed:
- is
14.4 square miles
- is
the headwaters of the mighty Cullasaja River
- is
a water supply watershed, the source of the Town's
drinking water
- contains
four subwatersheds: Big Creek, Cullasaja River,
Mill Creek and Monger Creek
UCWA continues
to make a substantial impact as a grassroots organization
dedicated to the factual and scientific pursuit of understanding
and managing the water resources of the Highlands Plateau.
